Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program

GUIDELINES

The Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program was developed in 1985 for the purpose of acknowledging teachers who exhibit outstanding performance.  The premise of recognizing teachers is based on the following:  (1) the success of our public schools are due to the quality and dedication of their teaching staff; (2) recognizing excellence will encourage teachers to strive for excellence; (3) by giving the teaching profession the stature and recognition it deserves, more capable people will be attracted to the profession; and (4) like other professions, outstanding performance should be acknowledged.

In order to use common criteria and forms for the selection of the teachers, the following guidelines are used for the selection of Teacher of the Year:

1.     Teachers are those whose primary responsibility is classroom instruction.

2.     A selection panel comprised of at least one member of each of the following groups:  teachers, administrators, parents, students and other citizens will evaluate all forms submitted.

3.     Teachers must be tenured in Kenilworth.

4.     Teachers who have received the award within the past 3 years are not eligible.

5.     One High School teacher and One Middle School teacher will be selected.

Nominees Sought for Kenilworth Teacher Award

David Brearley Middle/High School is soliciting nominations for its entries in the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program. One high school teacher and one middle school teacher will be honored in April 2009.

Nomination forms are available at the Kenilworth Public Library, on the web at www.kenilworthschools.com or at the David Brearley High School main office.
